Anti-Wrinkle Injections FAQ

Anti-wrinkle injections are prescription treatments containing botulinum toxin type A. They work by relaxing targeted facial muscles that cause expression lines, helping your skin look smoother and refreshed. Common treatment areas include frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and in some cases, excessive sweating.

Small, precise amounts of medication are injected into specific muscles. This reduces unwanted movement, softening existing lines and preventing deeper wrinkles from forming. Treatments are designed to enhance your natural expression rather than change your appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections are considered a very safe cosmetic treatment when administered by a qualified medical professional. Side effects are usually mild and temporary, which is why this treatment is one of the most popular ways to achieve a refreshed, youthful appearance worldwide.

Yes. Anti-wrinkle injections are effective for both women and men. Men may require slightly higher doses due to stronger facial muscle activity.

Treatment is quick, usually 10–20 minutes, and most patients return to their usual activities immediately. Mild discomfort may occur, but the procedure is generally well tolerated.

Initial effects are usually noticeable within 2–5 days, with full results appearing after 1–2 weeks. Timing can vary depending on individual response and the product used.

Results typically last 3–4 months. Factors such as muscle strength, lifestyle, and previous treatments can influence duration. Ongoing treatments help maintain consistent, natural results.

No. The goal at Iris Clinic is subtle, refreshed results. Treatments are tailored to your facial anatomy and personal goals to maintain natural expression.

Most side effects are mild and temporary, including redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or mild headache. Less common effects may include temporary drooping of eyelids or brows, asymmetry, or local muscle weakness. Serious complications are very rare when treatments are administered by a qualified medical professional.

Anti-wrinkle injections may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, infection at the injection site, or an allergy to botulinum toxin products. A thorough medical assessment ensures treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

Downtime is minimal. Small bumps or redness usually settle within minutes to hours. Bruising, if it occurs, may last a few days.

Yes. Starting treatment before lines are deeply established can help prevent the formation of permanent wrinkles over time, while maintaining natural movement.

Muscle activity gradually returns to normal, and lines will slowly reappear. Your appearance will not worsen compared to before treatment.

Costs depend on the areas treated and the amount of medication used. A personalised quote will be provided during consultation.

To ensure the best possible result and minimize any side effects, please follow these post-treatment guidelines.

The “First 4 Hours” (Critical)

  • Stay Upright: Do not lie flat or bend over for 4 hours. Keep your head elevated to prevent the product from migrating.
  • Hands Off: Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas. This includes avoiding tight hats or headbands.
  • Facial Exercise: It is helpful to gently exercise the treated muscles (frown, squint, or lift your brows) for the first hour to help the product settle.

The First 24–48 Hours

  • No Strenuous Exercise: Avoid the gym, HIIT classes, or yoga (especially inversions/downward dog) for 24 hours. A gentle walk is fine.
  • Avoid Heat: Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or very hot showers for 48 hours.
  • Alcohol & Blood Thinners: Avoid alcohol for 24 hours. To minimize bruising, avoid anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen/Aspirin) unless medically necessary. Use Paracetamol for any mild headaches.
  • Skincare & Makeup: You may apply mineral makeup gently after 4 hours. Avoid active skincare (Retinols, AHAs) and facials/massages for at least 5 days.
